Former four-star running back Broderick Green informed USC coaches and friends that he intends to transfer. While many have speculated that Green is transferring due to the ridiculous amount of depth USC has at linebacker this does not seem to be entirely the case. Green has informed those close to him that the reason for his transfer is to be closer to his family. It was increasingly difficult for his family to be able to fly from their home state of Arkansas to see Green play and it was difficult for Green to be able to afford to travel home for the holidays. His mother is currently going through a divorce and Green decided it best to finish his college career at a school closer to home.
It remains unclear where Green is looking to tranfer aside from his criteria that it be closer to home than USC. The 6-2, 235lbs freshman chose USC over Ohio State, Penn State, Tulsa, and Arkansas. Many Penn State fans and insiders considered Green a lock to choose Penn State but he opted to attend USC instead. One would think his home state school of Arkansas might be an early leader simply due to location but it remains unclear how Green would fit into new head coach Bobby Petrino's offense and also large depth chart at running back. Both Penn State and Ohio State could still be options for Green due to limited depth charts at both schools at the running back position. Ohio State however has very limited scholarships with which it could offer Green having already signed a huge class early in the recruiting season. Ohio State also has signed two running backs already as part of this class, one of which Carlos Hyde, is a power back similar to Green.
UPDATE: According to CampusConfidential.com, word is that he's looking at Texas A&M, Arkansas and Penn State --
some of the schools he considered while he was a senior at Pulaski
Academy. But Penn State appears to be out of the question. I was told
today he put a call into Joe Paterno who replied with a simple, "No."
JoePa is old school and believes transfers come with baggage, and you
can't blame him.
So could Green ultimately end up at a Penn State afterall? Does he again open up his college search? Sound off here in the message forums!
