The Heisman trophy finalists were announced and this year three individuals will be headed to the Downtown athletic club in New York city this weekend. Quarterbacks Tim Tebow (Florida Gators), Colt McCoy (Texas), and Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) were all named as finalists. Tebow is attempting to be only the second player other than former Ohio State great Archie Griffin to win multiple Heisman trophies. Both Tebow and Bradford lead their respective teams to the FedEX BCS national championship game on January 8th in Miami while McCoy was just a goofy Big 12 conference BCS tiebreaker away from taking Bradford's spot in the national championship game. Seven of the last eight Heisman Trophy winners have been quarterbacks;
the last non-quarterback to win the prestigious award was USC running
Reggie Bush in 2005. Only three defensive players have ever garnered
the Heisman, those notable players being: Larry Kelley (Yale - 1936
End), Leon Hart (Notre Dame - 1949 End), and Charles Woodson (Michigan
- 1997 Cornerback).
BetUS.com's 2008 Heisman Trophy Betting Odds:
Colt McCoy (Texas) +600
Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) -500
Tim Tebow (Florida) +400
