AbsolutePigskin.com has learned that Penn State defensive back Darryll Givens, a member of the most recent 2009 recruiting class is in danger of not qualifying academically for admission to Penn State. Currently both Penn State and Givens are waiting for his last SAT score but as of now it is looking like Givens will end up having to go to a prep-school for one year in order to get his grades in order. The 6-1, 179lbs, four-star prospect out of Indian Head, MD is the 29th ranked defensive back in the class of 2009.
The last PSU player to go to prep school before admittance is current quarterback Daryll Clark. Needless to say it worked out fine for him so Givens should be alright either way.
In other Penn State recruiting news one of the first members of the Penn State class of 2010, quarterback Paul Jones (6-2, 212lbs), a four-star prospect out of McKees Rocks, PA has decided to open up his recruitiment once again. Jones is saying to many familar with the situation that he prefers to stay close to home and no more than about a three hour radius from home in the Pittsburgh area. Penn State falls on the edge of that range and whereas Jones still could ultimatey end up as a Nittany Lion next season I would not be surprised to see Jones end up at the University of Pitt. Jones also has interest in West Virginia but he has yet to be offered by the Mountaineers. This is an important development for Penn State as next year Penn State will have only one scholarship quarterback on the roster, freshman Kevin Newsome, with the graduation of current starter Darryll Clark.
