Buckeyes get surprise QB commit

Kenny Guiton of Aldine, Texas committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes today in what is a bit of a surprise committment. Guiton has not been talked about in Ohio State circles virtually at all during the recruiting process as Ohio State focused on more high profile recruits like four-star prospect Tajh Boyd. With Boyd choosing Clemson over the Buckeyes that left Ohio State in a bit of a bind having only two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster at present. Whereas this would not be the end of the world for the Buckeyes it is still good to maintain depth at such a key position. Guiton had received a lot of interest from schools in the Big 12 and in the WAC having received offers from Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Rice, and Praire View. Guiton is the 35th ranked dual threat quarterback in the class of 2009. Guiton at this point is most certainly more of a run first pass second type quarterback. He has good speed and quickness but his throwing motion is a bit of a wind up and he doesn't have a lot of natural arm strength. With some correction to his technique in terms of his throwing motion and his footwork he should have average type arm strength. More important over anything with Guiton is his lack of size on his 6-2 frame. Weighing in at 178 pounds some time in the weight room will be cruital not only to help him withstand the punishment at the college level but improve his arm strength. He is the perfect type of player you want to add depth to your roster and allow him the chance to develop in the system.
