On a positive note...

Still somewhat flustered by the Ohio State performance today I am unable to sit back and objectively write anything about this Buckeye team. Maybe a day or two to cool off wll give me a more level head to find both the good and the bad with the team but now it is hard to think much more than bad thoughts about this Buckeye team.

On a more positive note it was a successful day picking games against the spread. Out of 6 games we hit 5 winners today and hope to keep this going throughout the season. Here is a recap of today's plays, the lines I got, and the result of these picks. (My pick in Red.)

Diffenbach commits to Nittany Lions

When three star offensive lineman MIles DIffenbach arrived in Happy Valley Tuesday it was just too good not to make a decision. On an unofficial visit to Penn State this Tuesday after a day spent on campus meeting with the various Penn State coaches Diffenbach pledged his services to the Nittany Lions. The 6'5, 277lbs offensive lineman out of Fox Chapel, PA is the 38th ranked offensive tackle in the nation and chose Penn State over offers from Pittsburgh, USF, Boston College, Syracuse, Northwestern, Florida, State, and Virginia. DIffenbach has an excellent frame that should easily support 300+ pounds at the college level. It is a little unsure what position he will translate to at the collegiate level but at first glance of his film it is easy to see him at right tackle. Diffenbach becomes the sixth verbal for the Penn State class of 2010.

Penn State adds #23

Steelton, PA defensive tackle Jordan Hill has verbally pledged his intentions to play for Penn State University. The 6-3, 290lbs HIll is rated a 2-star prospect by Rivals.com and is the selected the Pennsylvania state class A football player of the year and lead his Steelton-Highspire team to the class A state championship. Hill picked Penn State over offers from Rutgers, Pittsburgh, and Temple.

Another weekend goes by and another in the week of crazy upsets in the world of college football. No I'm no talking about Penn State's destruction of a vastly overrated Michigan State team... I'm not talking about Ohio State's destruction of a faltering and feeble Michigan team. I'm not talking about Florida's mercy killing of the Citidel as none of those are upsets. I'd like to talk about Syracuse's upset of Notre Dame IN SOUTH BEND no less but hey neither of those teams really matter to any of the rankings. By the way is Charlie Weis still considered a genius or can we finally call him arrogant and overrated?

First and foremost in the upset department... a slight upset if you go by rankings at least came in the marquee game of the weekend. #2 Texas Tech went on the road to face then #5 Oklahoma. Tech, quickly upon kickoff, was left wondering what went wrong and when did the first bus back to Lubbock depart. They simply got dismantled by the Sooners 65-21. This not only has thrown the Big 12 conference in a tizzy, with Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas all having but one loss but also the BCS national championship picture. Tech beat Texas... Texas beat Oklahoma... Oklahoma beat Texas. Kind of an interesting problem for voters here.. Oklahoma, based on their performance against Tech, leapfrogged Texas in the human polls even though Texas beat Oklahoma. It is very interesting because there is no way of knowing that Oklahoma would not have gotten beat in Lubbock or Tech would have lost in Austin, TX. The feeble minded voters always go with who they see last... or more importantly what box score they see last (since many voters don't see the games.) More nonsense that shows how flawed the human polls and the BCS itself is. Let's face facts, the BCS is made up mostly of human polls. The computer element is only a part of the total here and weighs heavily on the human element and hence is why the system is so quirky each year.
